πŸ”’ ICW Navigate Privacy Policy

ICW Navigate β€” Florida Intracoastal Waterway Β· App Version 1.0 Β· Last Updated: May 14, 2026

Overview

BassTech Consulting Group ("we", "us", "our") operates the ICW Navigate iOS application ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the App, whether on your iPhone, iPad, or associated Apple devices via iCloud.

Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the App.

Information We Collect

1. App Usage & Analytics

We collect anonymized usage data through Apple's built-in App Analytics (via App Store Connect), including:

  • App launch frequency and session duration
  • Features accessed (chart view, tide, weather, safety rating)
  • Search queries and filter usage
  • Crashes and performance metrics
  • Device type and iOS version

This data is aggregated and anonymized β€” we do NOT receive personally identifiable information.

2. Location Data (Optional)

ICW Navigate uses your location to display your current position on the waterway map and calculate distance to waypoints. Location is:

  • Always optional β€” location permission is requested at first launch and can be disabled in iPhone Settings > Privacy > Location Services
  • Never stored on our servers β€” location data stays on your device and syncs only to your private iCloud CloudKit container
  • Never shared with third parties β€” we never sell, trade, or monetize location data

3. User-Created Content

When you use the App, you may create:

  • Waypoint data (latitude, longitude, custom names, notes)
  • Trip plans and routes you design
  • Bookmarked charts and tide stations

All user-created content is stored exclusively on your device and in your private iCloud CloudKit container β€” not on BassTech servers.

4. Device Information

Via App Store Connect analytics, Apple provides us with:

  • Device model (iPhone, iPad)
  • iOS version and build number
  • App version and build
  • Crash logs and performance data

Data Storage & Security

On-Device Storage

All App data β€” waypoints, trips, chart preferences β€” is stored in iOS's SQLite database on your device, encrypted by iOS's hardware-backed Data Protection (at rest).

iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud sync, your data is securely synced to your private iCloud CloudKit container:

  • End-to-end encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3)
  • Encrypted at rest in Apple's iCloud storage
  • Accessible only to you via your Apple ID
  • BassTech servers never have access to CloudKit data

External Data Sources (Third-Party APIs)

The App fetches data from public, government-owned sources:

  • NOAA Charts & Tide Data β€” Public domain nautical charts and tide predictions (no auth)
  • Open-Meteo Marine Weather β€” Open-source weather forecasts (no auth, no tracking)
  • FWC GIS Data β€” Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission geographic data (public)

We do not send your location or user data to these external services. The App fetches public data based on your manual navigation (e.g., when you pan the map or search for a tide station).

How We Use Your Data

  • πŸ—ΊοΈ Navigation & Mapping: Display charts, tide data, and weather on your map to help you navigate the Florida ICW safely.
  • πŸ“Š Safety Rating: Calculate the proprietary Water Safety Rating score based on real-time conditions (wind, waves, tide, pressure).
  • βš™οΈ App Features: Enable core features: waypoint storage, trip planning, chart bookmarks, widget updates.
  • πŸ”„ Cloud Sync: Sync your data across your Apple devices via iCloud CloudKit (if enabled).
  • πŸ› Troubleshooting: Collect anonymized crash logs and performance metrics to identify and fix bugs.
  • πŸ“ˆ Aggregate Analytics: Use anonymized usage trends to improve navigation UI, chart rendering, and weather accuracy.

Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell, trade, lease, or rent your personal information. Your data is shared only as necessary for core App functionality:

Apple Inc.

  • iCloud CloudKit: If you enable sync, Apple syncs data to your private CloudKit container
  • App Store Analytics: Apple aggregates anonymized crash and usage metrics

Public Government APIs

NOAA, Open-Meteo, and FWC provide public data β€” we do not transmit your location or user ID to these services.

Law Enforcement & Legal Process

We may disclose your information if required by law (subpoena, court order) or to protect BassTech's legal rights.
